Related Subreddits. I'm new here, so, sorry if i will make some bad things. I just get here to ask, did anyone knows 'Super Game VCD 300'? This is from where i beginned my gaming adventure, this one was really important though. If not this one i would probably have no respect for 80' games.
It had classics like Contra, Super Mario Bros. Battle City, Jackal, Rockman, Bomberman, Wrecking Crew and hell more. I'm curious also about that, everyone has red one, but i have blue one Oo Nobody probably didn't heard about this one. But maybe, i will find someone. I would just want to know did there are people that played it, and knows story from where is this or something.
For every reply i'm thankful! I don't know completely what you mean I was basing my guess on the games you mentioned - they're all Famicom / NES games. The Famicom / NES was a very popular console, which led to unofficial reproduction or 'clone' consoles being made (often referred to as 'Famiclones'). Clearly the Famicom board made it into a lot of different bits of hardware. The Chinese for example, is just a Famiclone with a built-in keyboard.
It sounds like you had a DVD player that also had a Famicom board inside? Very interesting. Did it have a cartridge slot for games?. If it can play games it's not a 'normal' CD player, I can tell you that much! I took the liberty of Googling 'Super VCD 300'. It looks like an emulator disc for Windows.
From the wording of your original post I thought it might be a weird clone console, but I guess you were just talking about software. So to answer the original question, I didn't personally have this disc, but I and many others have been emulating Famicom / NES games for decades. I'm sure there were other similar bundles floating around at the time. Beating an old thread sorry about it but i had the very same VCD thing! Well maybe not the exact same one, those things were made in a variety of products including but not limited to DVD and VCD Players from all kinds of chinese brands (the one i had is a SUNNY, it was blue and even came with a blue disc!) and even cassette players with VCD functionality. They all had one thing in common that they were based on a certain Sunplus Technology chip, the company still holds up till today but i doubt they know anything about it.
Yeah, i know, there were much more games, and also, i was kind surprised when i saw Metal Gear on the list in the video. I didn't knowed that i had access to this classic!
I'm really fan on Metal Gear series since i played Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater on PS2, which is, without doubt, the best game i've EVER player. I have some feelings like i played Metal Gear maybe. But well, that's one of those childhood secrets that you can't solve. By the way, thanks for the information, i was surprised why many people had red one, because i had an blue one.
So, if PC can see it, is it possible for it to launch games from it? Or i can only download from net and emulate on another emulator?. In my experience the blue ones were way more common but i definitely saw red ones too, guess it depended on the manufacturer. Usually for VCD CDs you'd use something like VLC to read the videos, however since this is such a special case of a CD, it just crashes when it tries to read it, ive been trying to find emulators for a while now something anything that can at least show the menus (which i assume to be universal, i had other CDs that implemented menus for sure) but i didn't find much, i did find an editor that claims to make and modify VCD menus but it didn't even recognize the format:( also much like many other VCD CDs, this game CD has a CDI folder which contains some.
In other CDs this is meant to be some kind of program to make the CD playable on a Phillips CD-i compatible(yep, the console) but in this case, i'm not sure. I did try a single CDI emulator which failed to read the iso sadly, CDI emulation scene is kind of a MESS(pun intended, MESS is another emulator that i didnt try) to my knowledge anyway and i really doubt better emulators can achieve better results. All in all, even if you do find a program that perfectly emulates a typical VCD, the best it can do will most likely be accessing the menus and that's it, the games seem to be in a format that isn't playable by VCDs from other manufacturers that dont use the aforementioned Sunplus chip (or a PS2/Sega Genesis VCD addon for that matter), although i haven't tried it myself so if you do have another VCD player lying around dont hesitate to try!
You can still get the individual ROMs for each game included on the disc to my knowledge (there were also only like 50-100 unique games at best, most of the CD are repeats) and you'd get a way better experience playing at the intended framerate with proper sound, someone out there also compiled a full text list of the games included. I didn't try Metal Gear(listed as Mteal Gear.) myself either, not to my knowledge anyway. Knowing me i might have opened it once, got super confused, and went back to Contra or SMB, though i'm pretty sure its the NES version and the original MSX version which is kind of a bummer, but honestly i wouldn't complain if only i get to experience that piece of bootleg crap again!
The CD mechanism on mine is broken and most repairmen in my town deemed it not worth it to source the parts. Wow, this VCD is like really unique.
Yeah, i was also confused when i saw 'Mteal Gear' lol, i think that if i played Metal Gear i probably played once, get confused and get back to Contra or other goldie, well, that's strange that it was supposed to work on CD-I PHILIPS ( Which is mainly known for its worst games ever, such as Hotel Mario, The Legend Of Zelda: Faces Of Evil ). Well, that VCD really is mysterious thing, that's sad about that there's no way to emulate or something, but that was interesting. Well, as you might know, not so great if wanna talk about games.
The first console that was popular here was Pegasus ( you know, one of the biggest NES boot-legs ) and PSX/PS1. I dunno but i still can't believe that we also have some great games like The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 ( which is still an 'mystery' ). I will do not lie. I'm so happy that i could have this VCD, if not this, i would probably be one of those Fortnite kids. Kids those times don't have respect for old video games and their history. For example, they talk about GTA V but they should also have some respect to GTA III, the very first 3D GTA. Algeria and the situation is more or less the same (though i feel that the PS1 had a coldboot while PS2 was the popular boi), except that we dont have rising AAA devs i guess.
I dont blame today's kids for chasing the popular games these days tbh, i did the same with my PC, and while sure there are timeless classics from the NES, it was plagued with horrible horrible unfinished buggy messes that had no soul yet were sold for 120$ 1980s dollars, in retrospect we live in the golden age for low budgeted indie development of great cheap games, today's AAA scene is kinda eeeh and seems to go through Hollywood's route of sequel madness with the outstanding game once in a while. Well, that was wonderful and true.
I don't meaned GTA V is worst GTA ever, it's also good, but i just wanted to say that they should not forget which previous ones gived them this that they have, GTA III started 3D GTAs, GTA:SA had good map, story itp., and GTA IV was one of those that feel like most realistic. ( I mean, life can be really pain in the ass, which GTA IV just shows that;P ) I don't like Fortnite because it's not in my style. I have good gun, still dying ( yep still hiding, jumping evading but still just killed. ) And also because kids in my grounds are like brain-dead because of it, in every PC at Informatics there is Epic Games Launcher and downloading Fortnite. And also, they make those taunts and when they look like idiots.
Alright, enough of that 'hate', let's get to another topic. Yeah, AAA games for now don't are that good as they were used to be, many of developers do the sequels of them just for money. For Indie, it's now Golden Era, they now can easily create good games with engines ( such as Unity, RPG Maker, Fusion ) with yet low budget or totally without. Hinterland for example did great job, they started at kickstarter, get money, they had their game, The Long Dark at early access for 4 years, but when full version arrived, this game was really good. They still make updates though, so it's still getting better and better. I itself work on games with my friend, but of course, i'm not saying that 'We're going to be just like them.' , maybe we'll success, maybe not, who knows?
We just like doing that. Oh well, if i already sayed something about today's AAA games, let's take MGS5, created by Konami, not Kojima. Much hate, plot holes, and even more. MGS1, loved, good soundtrack. I don't played MGS1 but i was reading about it, i only played MGS3 and 2, and i'll aggree, those are without doubt better than 5.
But of course some games are just getting better and better, such as Super Smash Bros. There every game makes it just better.
If only they bringed back Subspace Emisarry, the one of the best things about Super Smash Bros. Oh well, but every game gets something unique in those series.
That taked some time, hope i will don't de-voted, annoyed and more by saying something that i think. I would hate Fortnite less if not those kids that do those taunts and other things. Hope you'll understand;).
